Wayne Thiebaud
3rd Grade studied Pop Artist Wayne Thiebaud and his yummy desserts!
Students collaged personal pan pizza boxes creating pies, cakes, cupcakes, and ice cream cones
We discovered Georgia O’Keeffe’s life and her artwork by evaluating her unusual perspective on natural objects she painted.
O’Keefe pizza box steps:
1. Students designed their flower and drew it onto their pizza box.
2. With watered down Glue All students dipped paper towels into a bowl of glue and squeezed any extra glue off.
3. Next students sculpted their flowers by draping the dipped paper towels onto the pizza box and over the sides too.
4. After glue dried students painted their flowers

Kindergarten studied American Pop artist Wayne Thiebaud and his passion for desserts. Students drew a gumball machine by observing its shape and painted it will tempera cakes. Using oil pastels, they drew a variety of lines creating a pattern for visual interest.
After studying primary and secondary colors students used shades and tints of each in their gumballs. Students discussed overlapping and showed their understanding by overlapping their gumballs. To top it off they added a small white curved line for light reflection to a few gumballs. Yum!
Matisse study
Henri Matisse
French artist Henri Matisse is known for creating a variety of art masterpieces. It was his desire to create art that was pleasing to look at and to give the viewer a calm, peaceful feeling, much like a comfortable arm chair.
First Grade worked with different art media while creating their Henri Matisse inspired fish bowls: printing, drawing, painting, and construction. They discovered his use of bright colors and his love for paper collages.
Students enjoyed learning the shaving cream print method by mixing watercolor into shaving cream and swirling the watercolor around with a stylus. Students then pressed their fish bowl against the shaving cream and when the shaving cream was removed it left the color swirls printed on their paper.
After exploring different botanicals in nature they drew large leaves and flowers on their background paper. They colored their backgrounds with bright oil pastels like a “Wild Beast” just like what Henri Matisse was called by art critics for using bright colors.
Each class formed a different fish using different art mediums. One class used Shrink-A-Dink and the other developed foil reliefs. Both classes used a variety of lines and created different patterns to add a decorative finish to their fish.

4th Grade Plushie Limericks
My big white house was on sale
But one sunny day it hailed
I have holes in my roof
Didn’t have any proof
So I was placed in jail
